Find and Understand Samples

Use this chapter when you need to find an existing sample without changing it.

Start in your AI agent and make sure the intended Culsma PAWS workspace is active. Give the most specific identifier you know, such as a barcode, sample ID, subject, project, tag, or storage location.

Common tasks

  • Find a sample by ID or barcode.
  • Search by subject, project, tag, sample type, or collection date.
  • Find samples without an assigned storage location.
  • Review biological and project context.
  • Locate a sample in a freezer, rack, box, or position.
  • Refine a search when several samples match.

Example requests

Find sample PAWS-001 and show its current storage location.

Show samples in the PAWS project tagged for follow-up.

Find samples in this project that do not have an assigned storage location.

Find the samples for subject SUB-104 collected in May and group them by sample type.

What a useful result should include

A useful answer identifies the matching sample records and shows the context needed for the task, such as:

  • the sample ID or barcode;
  • the related subject and Lab Project;
  • relevant tags and collection information; and
  • the recorded box, freezer, and position when available.

The AI agent should state when a location or part of the context is missing. It should not infer a physical location that is not recorded in Culsma PAWS.

Review the result

Check the sample ID before relying on the context or location. If several samples match, add another known detail instead of guessing which record is correct.
